Birkat Hachamah - AKA Slumdog Millionaire
This morning after almost no sleep my family woke up to daven vatikin and then to do Birkat Hachamah together with our shul. After Shacharit the kehillah proceeded outdoors and it was too cloudy to see the sun. They decided to walk a bit to see if they could see it in a more open area. As they turned towards my corner I made a silent T'fillah that my house should serve as the conduit for this holy unusual mitzvah. Lo and behold when they reached my front lawn we were able to see the sun! As everyone sang "karah lashemesh vayizrach or" happy tears streamed down my face. While the whole world is trying to remember where they were twenty-eight years ago, and where IY"H they will be twenty-eight years from now, I would like to propose that everyone focus on the miracle of where they are RIGHT NOW, and all of the good that HKBH bestows on us daily. It occurred to me this morning that twenty eight is the numerical value of "koach" as in koach ugvurah natan bahem...may it be thy will that we all have koach to do the ratzon of Ha-shem and that we are blessed with health and happiness. Chag Kasher V'sameach to all.

Very nice. We davened vasikin, and then went to a central area, but nothing was doing, b/c although the sky was relatively clear, the sun was not yet high enough for the ball to be seen. So instead of standing around doing nothing in the cold, my boys and I went to buy bagels, but the bagel store & bakery were closed. But the baguette place was open, and we bought them fresh out of the oven. On the way back to the gathering, I spotted the sun popping out of some clouds, so we stopped right there, got out of the car and made the berachah. And that was that.
Kishke - thanks ...your experience sounds good too...after all what could be better than fresh baguettes with your kids before birkat hachamah before Pesach?
Wow! Beautiful post. I'm so happy the bracha was said b'rov am hadrat melech, on your lawn! How special. Hold onto that spiritual moment of G-d hearing your tefillah and having that connection with Him. May that gathering for this unique event be a sign of sunny days ahead for you and your family.
Chag kasher v'sameach!
Maayan
Thank you Maayan. Trying to hold on to that moment... Thanks for the bracha and may HKBH grant the same to you and yours...!
I enjoyed this post. I liked the idea of focusing on where one is now. I also like that you got your prayer answered.
I once heard that the word YAD is 14, friend - YEDID is comprised of the word YAD twice, because friendship is the giving of a hand. And KOACH is 28 because when a hand is extended and accepted there is strength.
Thanks RNF and wow...I love that friend idea!
